Bali Travel Tips

Do and Don'ts:

•  Remember that this is a land where prayer and religious festivals take center stage. Thus, When attending ceremonies in temples

•  Always wear a sarong. It will be provided at the entrance of the temple

•  Do not walk in front of the people praying

•  Women are not allowed to enter the temples when they have their period

•  Do not use camera with flash lights

•  You will often see an offering on the street. Do not step on it, walk around it.

•  Exchange your money in the authorized money changer. Use your own calculator as some calculator may be tampered.

•  Avoid touching people's head. It is considered impolite and offensive.

•  The airport taxi service covers most areas and the prices are fixed. Pay the cashier at the desk in the airport and give the coupon to the driver. You can tip the driver. Also remember to ask him not to drive fast.

•  Don't Do Tattoo Art With Dangerous Chemicals
Many tattoo artists use dangerous chemical textile dyes which are not suitable for use on the human body. The color is dark black, and can cause permanent welting in the shape of the tattoo design. Ask for Henna instead as it is problem free because of its natural quality.

•  Don't buy drugs. Drug-peddling happens mostly in Kuta. As you saunter about the streets you will hear people whisper, ”cheap drugs, mushroom, ganja etc.” Ignore them. Death penalty waits for drug users and drug dealers.

•  Only few beaches have coast guards. Always swim between the red flags, and do not risk swimming too far out if strong currents occur. Always leave your belongings with those you know and trust. Do not leave them unattended.

•  Do not use your left hand in sacking or handing over something to someone as it is consider impolite. If there is no other option then express your apology.

•  Many people in Bali will not point using their pointer finger; instead they use their thumb to point.

•  Always bring cash with you when traveling especially to the village. Keep small change on hand because it will be needed when riding public transportation

•  Do not drink tap water. Drink only bottled water.

•  Leave your important documents in the hotel's safety box. However, bring a copy of your ID with you.

•  Except in Department Stores, remember to always bargain. However, don't bargain just for the fun of it. This is because if you end up not buying after engaging in a furious bargain battle of wits, you will end up being chased for miles. Just don't look for that goods a second too long or ask how for the price if you are purely browsing with no real intention of buying

•  Show some respect and avoid honking if you trapped behind the slow pace of local processions.

•  When crossing the street, always look to your right, to your left, then to your right again. Motorcycles do not stop for pedestrian.
