    9Clouds is a restaurant, lounge and club located in the 9th floor of the Menara Jamsostek, on Gatot Subroto. It is a correct place for eating, though a bit pricey. The best thing about 9Clouds is the nice view on Jakarta, perfect for chilling. The club is not always full, so make sure to come when there are special events if you don't want to be disappointed.

    Absolute is one of the only bar in Jaksa with air-con. Lots of English teachers and journalists, and also some girls from Jaksa. Free pool table, darts, cheap beer, Premier League Soccer games on screen and always quite crowded by the same group of people. Nice.

    Airman Planet Lounge... What a name for a venue in a five-star hotel! The Sultan, ex-Hilton, doesn't have the reputation to be a rocking place, but this new lounge may bring some excitment.. Airman Planet Lounge is open every day of the week until 00h30 (1h30 during weekends), and it has a live band every evening at 9PM. Expensive, but great sound system and service.


Amigos

    Specialties : mostly a lace to have Mexican cuisine. It also features bands country and western. The bar is always crowded an Friday and Saturday nights.

    Electro bar next to its older sister Café Amor (open 24h). Prices are quite high, with drinks starting Rp60,000, but I think that generally speaking, Kemang has become expensive everywhere in the past 3-4 years. The sound system is good and there is a dark, clubbing atmosphere inside.

The proximity with Cafe Amor and Vino Embassy makes it a good place to crash at the end of your night of partying.

    Bakudapa Café & Resto is a live music spot featuring local artists playing old Indonesian favourites.. After you enter the door, the mamasan (indonesian pimp) will sit you with one of the girl hostesses, to whom you are invited to pay a drink and do some chit-chat. Very empty, and very sad music so it makes the whole experience very depressing... The only patrons are indonesian men in their forties... Worth to grab a beer if you don't know this kind of place. It is very close from the backpacker street Jalan Jaksa, less than 5 minutes by foot.
    It is in the same building where once stood the Nusabunga Café, the lowest form of entertainment that existed in Jakarta back then.

    Specialties : The downstairs music box bar is subtly lit with tables around couches. The upstairs Churchill bar next to the restaurant was rated in Newsweek's Best Bars in the World a few years ago. Great cocktails, beautiful building.


Bats

    Specialties : The Shangri-la houses this great bar. This is one of the hottest bars in town. They are still using imported bands, and they get rocking at 9 to 9:30. They have a restaurant attached, that serves some great food.
    It gets packed out on the standard Friday and Saturday nights, but it tends to be busy almost every night. There is a small dance area where you can work off the calories, and stress of the day. A 1999 Premier Award winner.

    Bibliotheque, The Library bar, is an impressive and stylish venue, which made the buzz in Jakarta during the last semester of 2009. Not a great party place but ok for an (expensive) drink. It becomes much nicer in my opinion after 10pm as the formal atmosphere eases up a bit and the DJ kicks in.
    Be careful, the dresscode is very strict: No short, no torn jeans, no sandals. Expect to pay around 400,000rp for a meal + wine if you decide to eat there.

    Black Canyon Coffee is a Thai coffee house chain that has over 150 cafés in Siam, and is extending rapidly in the rest of Southeast Asia.
    I don't know if it is the same in the other Jakarta branches (like the one in Cipete), but in Black Canyon Dharmawangsa, they have quite popular salsa nights on Saturdays. Otherwise, it's a regular bar sitting on a mall. If you only care about partying, no reasons to go there unless for those special Salsa nights.
    Black Canyon Coffee does not sell alcohol except beer so if you're too shy to dance, do a warm up before. Girls seem a bit desperate to find dance partners in Jakarta, so it's a good opportunity to meet young, smart and independent indonesian ladies. The same thing applies to Mistere in Ritz-Carlton.

    BlackCat Jazz Supper club is a classy, upmarket jazz Bar with good live performances. The seats are not so comfortable though and it’s a bit too dark. Mixed expat and Indonesian crowd. that I didn't find so pretentious for a Jazz bar. Not far from Red Square bar if you feel like going out after that.
    The restaurant proposes an original mix of creole/cajun food (not tried).

    Bloeming could be a nice bar if it was located in Scotland, or at least in Blok M or Jaksa. But to have it here in a mall makes me feel this is just another marketing concept. The design is original though, it looks like the interior of a pirate ship, with some beautiful wooden tables and furniture.
    The main reason to go to Bloeming is for drinking beer. They have 32 kinds of beer from all over the world, many that you cannot find elsewhere in Jakarta. They also have flavoured beers, which are usually a way to have girls coming too.
    For around Rp.200,000, you have an all you can drink promo lasting three hours.
    Happy hours from 11am to 8pm, buy one get one. Acoustic nights and ladies nights on Thursday. Food is served also, not tried, but they advertise a lunch promo at Rp.55,000.

    Bremer Beer House is a friendly, tiny bar in Kemang with a beer garden and live performances occasionaly. Very popular at the moment, it's a good address to try in Kemang and it's not particularly expensive.     Specialties: D's Place has a great ambience - it's a good place to get slowly and sociably smashed out of your skull. By general consensus it's the best place on the Blok for cheap drinks and honest bar bills, but service can be patchy. Getting a bar girl to take your order is sometimes like trying to get a London bus - you wait for ages, then suddenly two or three arrive at once.
    Downstairs is a nicely designed bar and pool annex, but it's rather small (“bijoux” in the parlance of estate agents) and the pool table is so close to the side wall and a central pillar that it would challenge Harry Houdini to play a decent game. Upstairs is a cool, dimly-lit bar with what might best be described as an up-market sleaziness.
    D's Place has become the most popular pick-up place on the block, and after about 10.30 pm upstairs is usually wall-to-wall girls. You can barely make out peoples' faces in the half-light - and many a jar of beer has missed its mark when being put down on a table, ending up on the floor instead.
